GM Super Bowl spot welcomes the EV lineup with Dr. Evil

Synthetic engine resurrected Dr. Evil, the villain from the Austin Powers movies, to advertise tram squad in one Super Bowl advertisement. We don’t have many photos of the actual cars, but that’s probably not the point. GM want people to know that they will have 30 electric car models globally by 2025.

In the commercial, Dr. Evil, played by Mike Meyers, took control of GM. His group of minions, including Number Two (Rob Lowe) inform him that they now have access to the Ultium EV platform for their nefarious deeds. You can get a glimpse of 664 hp 2024 Silverado EV and autonomous Cadillac Innerspace conceptin addition to some must-haves in the supervillain arsenal, such as robot and laser cannons.

If you haven’t seen the Austin Powers movies, you might be a little confused. Last seen in 2002″Gold Member“, the third and final installment of the series, Dr. Evil is a parody of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, a recurring villain from James Bond Franchising. And advertising GM relies on great number of References from Austin Powers resource sources.

It was never explained that Seth Greene was his rebellious son, leading to Dr. Evil’s argument with Scott. Also, what’s the red button patch on Dr. Evil’s chair that never gets pushed? (Surname Activate traps to kill those who offend him.) Presumably, fire pits were added to the Renaissance Center after the takeover. And do we need two shots of Frau slapping Dr. Evil in the arm to stop Scott from pressing the button for 90 seconds?

The commercial is called “Dr. EV-il”, because of EVs, and although it has comedic moments, most of the jokes are “you have to be there” moments. By the way, the back story of Dr. Evil is that he was cryo-freeze in 1967 and thawed 30 years later in 1997 when the original Austin Powers movie hit theaters. And it’s been 25 years since we – well, those of us over 20 – saw that on screen.

Towards the end we see Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq and Brightdrop delivery truck same thing, but there may be a few Americans nearing drinking age who are still scratching their heads on the matter.
