Gervonta Davis versus Ryan Garcia is going on, though they’ll have to take care of other business first.
The gifted 135-pound competitors will play temporarily against unnamed competitors in January and then face off against each other in the 136-pound weight class a few months later, according to the report and a tweet from Davis.
No official details on the January fights were provided, though Davis indicated on Instagram that his bout will be in Washington, D.C.

Davis (27-0.25 KOs) vs Garcia (23-0.19 KOs) is one of the best matchups that can happen in the sport.
They are both young, skilful boxers with the power to knock out a single punch, which will make their encounter as explosive as any match. And they are two of the most popular boxers on the planet, with millions of followers on social media.
It’s not much better than this, at least on paper.

Davis, 28, a two-time 130-pound champion, who also won minor titles in the 135th and 140th, won 5-0 (5 KOs) in the championship matches. He gave all his belts.
The Baltimore product is about to debut in a Rolando Romero knockout in the sixth round with a score of 135 this past May. That followed a unanimous decision over wayward Isaac Cruz in December, a match Davis said he fought with an injured hand.
Garcia, 24, took a break from boxing last year for mental health treatment but returned to beat the formidable Emmanuel Tagoe (UD) and Javier Fortuna (KO 6) in April and July respectively. in 140 pound weight class fights.
The boxer’s biggest win came in January of last year, when he knocked out 2012 Olympic champion Luke Campbell in seven rounds with a score of 135.
