George Kambosos: Davis Tank Will Fight In Australia “Probably After I Kicked His Ass In His Hometown”
By: Sean Crose
“I want to fight Gervonta Davis,” said lightweight celebrater George Kamabosos FightHype, but he won’t fight in Australia… maybe after I kick his ass in his hometown. ” Kambosos is never one to hold back and he certainly will not when it comes to Davis, an implied Kambosos fighter who likes to easily touch his opponent. At this point, it looks like the Kambosos might really be in the ring with fellow lightweight Devin Haney. Kambosos is looking to face Vasyl Lomachenko, but the Russian invasion of Lomachenko’s homeland of Ukraine has left Loma at home to help defend his country.
Kambosos surprised a lot of people last November when he beat the famous, hard-hit WBO, IBF and WBA lightweight champion WBO, IBF and WBA over the course of 12 rounds, to the 28-year-old. all of Lopez’s championship belts. Going from being a quack to being one of the biggest names in a compelling division hasn’t changed Kambosos’ bold personality. And Kambosos is outspoken in his belief that top boxers must fight other top boxers, not settle for easy paydays. “Boxing has always been a sport where there are questions,” he said in the interview, “and questions that have to be answered.”
With that said, it’s clear Kambosos doesn’t feel Davis is answering any of the questions people want him to, such as how he’s up against men like Haney, Loma, Lopez, or himself. (Authorial Aside – Kambosos’ opinions are not necessarily those of the author or Boxing Insider). As for Davis, there is little doubt that he is focusing on Rolly Romero, whom he will fight May 28 at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. Just don’t assume that Kambosos is impressive.
“It wasn’t a big fight at all,” Kambosos quips on the video. “That guy, I’m not even sure who he is.” It’s clear that the outspoken Aussie isn’t giving the undefeated Romero a chance when he beats Davis this spring. “The tank should get rid of him real quick, really soon.” As far as Kambosos is concerned, Romero is “like a sacrificial lamb. The tank will destroy him and you will never hear of this kid again. “
