The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office said a number of fake electors for Donald Trump have been implicated in potential criminal activity and are seeking to have their attorneys removed. according to a new court filing.
The district attorney’s office is asking for disqualified attorney Kimberly Bourroughs Debrow to represent a group of 10 Republicans who served as electors for the former president in Georgia, a state that Trump lost to President Joe Biden. The DA’s office also alleges the attorney failed to offer her client an immunity agreement last year, according to the filing.
The new filings provide the latest indication that motions for immunity could still be made months after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis suggested impeachment decisions were “imminent.”
It noted that investigators interviewed a number of fake GOP electors this month and joked behind the scenes ahead of the announcement about who, if any, will face charges in the investigation. protracted investigation into efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
“Statements by some of her clients directly involving another client in additional charges suggest that Ms Debrow’s continued involvement in this matter has multiple conflicts of interest that have resulted in her completely excluded from this case,” the district attorney’s office wrote in the filing.
In interviews in April 2023, “several voters claimed that another voter represented by Ms. Debrow committed acts in violation of Georgia law and that they did not engage in additional acts this,” according to the filing.
Amid a battle last year to force electors to fake testimonies, the court instructed two lawyers, including Debrow, to notify their clients of potential waiver arrangements. The attorneys told the court they spoke to their clients and none of them were interested, according to the filing. Now the DA’s office claims that those offers were never made to customers.
“Additionally, during these interviews, several voters represented by Ms Debrow told members of the investigative team that no potential waiver offers were made available to them in 2022.” profile stated.
Debrow slammed the latest motion in a statement.
Debrow said: “The DA’s petition is baseless, false and insulting. “None of my clients have committed any crimes, and they have not necessarily implicated themselves or each other in any crime.”
No one has yet been charged in the Georgia case, although several people – including 16 fake electors and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani – have been told they are potential targets in the investigation. Willis’s investigation.
A special grand jury investigating the matter concluded their work late last year and recommended more than a dozen people face charges, the panel’s head said in interviews.
