Can everyone relax a bit? The sequel to “Freaky Friday” that Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have dreamed of being really, seriously, happening.
In a May 10 interview with The New York Times on the occasion of the film’s 20th anniversary, Curtis shared that she initially started thinking about a sequel during a “Halloween Ends” press tour. “People want to know if there’s going to be another ‘Freaky Friday’. Something that really hits a chord,” she said. “When I got back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like a movie is going to be made.'”
Lohan also seems to be wholeheartedly supporting the idea, but while Curtis may have started pulling the strings, the former says she’ll leave the final decision up to the studio. “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’ll just leave it in our hands,” she told the Times. “We’re just going to do something that people will absolutely love.”

Apparently, the hands were on board. Then on May 10, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the sequel To be is officially done, with both Lohan and Curtis returning. Elyse Hollander will write the screenplay for the film. A Disney representative did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for confirmation.
Lohan initially spoke to Jimmy Fallon about another “Freaky Friday” movie in November 2022, saying that’s what she told Curtis. “We talked about it, yes,” Lohan said. “I was filming at the time, and Jamie Lee Curtis wrote to you, and you just got excited and distracted right away, so I had to get back to earth,” she continued. “And then she said, ‘Freaky Friday 2’, and I got [even] more excited.” Fallon had to add a bit of frustration for Lohan to finally admit that she was equally interested in the idea of a sequel. .
Last month, in October 2022, Curtis also hinted at a potential sequel. At the “Halloween Ends” press conference in Mexico City, she admitted that she “absolutely” wants to make another movie. “Lindsay Lohan and I are friends,” Curtis explained to the crowd after she was asked if she was ready for a sequel. “She texted me the day before.” Curtis added, “Anyway, ‘Freaky Friday’ remake? Sure.”
We can’t wait to see Tess and Anna Coleman reunite on the big screen.
