Ford estimates that there are nearly 125,000 vehicles affected by the recall, none with electronic brake boosters, manufactured between December 2020 and November 2011. - 2020 – 2021 Escape: 49,553 units
- 2022 Exit: 2 units
- 2021 Bronco Sport: 65,429 units
- 2022 Bronco Sport: 12 units
That’s a total of 114,996 units here, with the rest being in Canada and Mexico.
The pad problem was discovered when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was testing the Bronco Sport. Government regulations require that if a vehicle’s power-assist brake fails, the vehicle, when driven at a certain speed, should be able to stop before traveling a certain distance. In this case, a Bronco Sport traveling at 60 miles per hour would need to be able to stop for no more than 551 feet without brake assist. NS NHTSA The audit showed that the Bronco Sport needed 58 feet to stop. Hence withdrawal. Based on Consumer Reports, the average braking distance for a small SUV going 60 mph is 132 feet, and the Bronco Sport claims to have performed the task 126 times.

When Ford investigated following the NHTSA’s findings, the automaker discovered the Escape, on which the Bronco Sport is based, could also be affected. Ford is working to confirm a fix right now.
