If you are reading Jalopnikthen you probably love your car enough to avoid mixing it up with another one in the parking lot, but one Montana man recently did exactly that when he mistook a random shade of red Honda’s motobike CR-V for him and drive away. Vincent Zepeda is said to have rushed to get one Pizzabut when he jumped in the car and started backing up, he noticed something strange dog in his back seat. Zepeda realized that a red color was identified identically Honda CR-V parked next to his car, and even though the stranger’s car did not have a roof or roof protector like his car, he jumped in, started the engine and drove away.

Most people know to lock their cars and take the keys when they leave, but it seems people in the rural state of Montana are less afraid of vandalism than most. With the most modern keyless start technology, The car will start when the start button is pressed as long as the key fob remains inside the car. The car doesn’t know if you are the rightful owner, it just knows its keys are inside.

I grew up in an urban area where you learn to quickly lock your car doors and keep valuables out of sight, but I’ve been to places where that’s not normal for people. Even if you live in a place with a low crime rate, it’s best to lock your doors, and no matter what, it’s best to take the keys out of your car when you park it.

Thieves have many creative ways to break in car theft, and some experts even advise against leaving your car keys on the hook next to the door or on the kitchen counter. That’s because they have a way to block your key fob’s radio frequency and use it to access your car even when it’s locked and your keys are still safely inside. However, the best way to keep your car and everything inside safe while you’re away is to lock the doors and get out of the car with the keys. Don’t make it easy for someone to steal your car, or worse, let a furry friend you left behind take a nap while you grab a pizza.
