Footage shows Doberman pretending to be dead to survive a brutal mountain lion attack

California is no stranger to wildlife happenings. With a wide range of landscapes and large residential areas covering most of the area, Tujunga, California lies within the borders of Los Angeles. Despite the bustling life of the city, wildlife still call the city home.

Unfortunately, that causes trouble for many four-legged family members. One family learned this lesson the hard way when their Doberman was recently the victim of a brutal attack.

A sneak attack just before dawn

The neighborhood was quiet for the remaining minutes before the sun started to rise. As the families were sleeping peacefully, a stealthy mountain lion quietly crept into the front yard of a suburban home around 4 a.m. In that yard lay the family’s Doberman chained in the corner.

Sadly, the Doberman was completely blindsided by the attack. He was left with very little defense left and he was particularly hindered by the length of the leash. The home security camera captured the horrific attack.

In the blink of an eye, the mountain lion seemed to have overpowered the dog with ease. Because he was unprepared and restricted by the dog’s leash, the mountain lion quickly pinned him down. Blood began to pour from the dog’s wound as it lay lifeless on the ground.

Several minutes passed. Meanwhile, the mountain lion kept his jaws firmly on the dog’s neck. The dog continued to lie motionless as if life was slowly slipping out of his hands. In the end, the ferocious predator thought the dog had finally breathed its last. He loosened his grip on the dog’s neck just enough for the dog to get a second wind.

The Doberman started barking as hard as he could. He begged for help while simultaneously scaring the mountain lion enough to make it run away.

The dog’s family eventually found it with many wounds and tears from the bloody battle. They rushed him to the hospital for 60 stitches! Miraculously, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Veterinarians said the only thing that saved him was the collar. It is thick enough to slow down and weaken a mountain lion’s bite.

Doberman’s ability to stay calm and cling to every moment of his life is truly amazing and certainly helped save his life.
