Fisker Ocean owner creates homemade fix amid automaker’s bankruptcy

Even if an automaker survives bankruptcy proceedings, restructured entity may no longer support the vehicles they previously manufactured. Fisker Ocean owners may find themselves in this difficult situation, but they are banding together to protect their interests and repair The Troubles of Electric Crossovers.

Fisker Ocean’s production ends in May and filed for bankruptcy in June. However, more than 6,000 Ocean crossover SUVs have been sold since the first deliveries in May 2023. Despite the many flaws pointed out in reviews, Fisker has implemented over-the-air updates to address the software issues that the Ocean has been rightly criticized for.

The bankruptcy filing jeopardizes not only future over-the-air updates, but also the vehicle’s service and parts supply. Owners bought the Ocean because they saw an experience they couldn’t get elsewhere, and they still see promise in the car’s flaws. More than 3,000 owners of the crossover have formed the Fisker Owners Association to fight for the resources needed to support the model for the foreseeable future. Los Angeles Times reported:

The association’s main focuses include ensuring stable service and parts supplies, continued access to the internet “cloud” software critical to operating cars, as well as resolving outstanding recalls and reviewing vehicle warranties.

“Our top priority is to ensure that cars that people paid a lot of money for just a few months ago… are no longer expensive hunks of metal a year from now,” said Daniel Shamah, the group’s attorney.

Fisker’s remaining stock is 3,321 Oceans sold for $46.25 million for American Lease, a NYC-based car-sharing company. The company will have access to Fisker’s cloud software, but the average owner will still have no way to access it, American Lease said. LA Times that they are willing to cooperate with LOA to ensure a steady supply of components from suppliers. According to the paper, it basically looks like the association will have to act on its own:

“We are on the path to using the phone as a key to overcome our weakness of not being able to buy more than one car key,” said Guthe, 65, an international banker who formerly worked at JPMorgan Chase.

This helps, he added, because many Fisker owners are “over 40 and have quirky, tech-savvy tastes.”

Hopefully, a group of savvy owners, along with time and money, will be enough to keep the Ocean going for Fisker. definitely not giving his best shot in the gallery
