Ferrari’s new convertible Grand tourer ends the familiar model

Ferrari confirmed it will stop Portofino m convertible hardtop and replaced by the recently revealed convertible Roma Spider.

Talking to Road & Tracka Ferrari spokesman has confirmed the Italian marque will discontinue its ‘entry level’ production Portofino USA hardtop convertible.

The Roma Spider, revealed last week, will be powered by the same 457 kW twin-turbo V8 as the Portofino M but will have a soft top instead of a retractable hard top.

This latest announcement is part of Ferrari’s continued development of the GT convertible, which began in the 1950s with models such as the 250 California and 365 California.

The California T was introduced in 2008 as a modern version of Ferrari’s classic convertibles and was designed by Ken Okuyama, who also designed the Enzo.

In 2016, the California T HS (Special Handling) performance option was introduced for owners looking for a sportier driving experience with the new turbocharged V8.

Portofino, which takes its name from the village on the Italian Riviera, replaced California T in 2017.

It gets 30 kW of power from an updated powertrain, as well as a refined design language, but retains the retractable hardtop concept of its predecessor.

Ferrari launched the Portofino M, with the M standing for Modificata (modified), in 2020 as a more powerful version of the Portofino.

It boasts revised front and rear styling as well as power and performance improvements, making it the first Ferrari convertible to feature a Race mode.

Portofino M can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.45 seconds, before reaching a top speed of over 320 km / h.

Although the soft top is lighter than the Portofino, Ferrari claims Roma Spider The five-layer fabric roof “boasts the same sonic comfort as a retractable hardtop”.

The Roma Spider’s fabric soft top can be lowered in 13.5 seconds, even at speeds up to 60km/h.

Under the bonnet, Roma Spider is equipped with a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 456kW of power from 5750 to 7500 rpm and 760Nm from 3000 to 5750 rpm.

The first deliveries of Roma Spiders in Australia will begin in late 2023 or early 2024.
