An Inglewood, California father named Jayveyon Burley, 22, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 1-year-old child. According to ABC7, Leilani Dream Burley’s body was recovered from the Los Angeles River in Long Beach on Monday.

The suspect’s mother contacted authorities on Sunday night. The woman informed police that Burley had gone to pick up his two children from their mother in Long Beach. However, he returned to his Inglewood home with only one child.

Police investigated the 1-year-old’s whereabouts and found her body in the LA River, below the Ocean Boulevard Bridge. Authorities arrested Burley for murder and child endangerment. And he was sent to the Inglewood Police Department Jail.

Leilani Dream Burley’s Mother Speaks Up

Lynisha Hull has spoken out since the tragic death of her daughter.

My daughter was murdered by her father. He threw her off the bridge.

Hull spoke to ABC7 privately and explained that Burley regularly picks up his children. He usually comes in on Sundays and returns the kids on Wednesdays.

The mother recounted that Burley seemed angry when she picked up her son for the last time. However, his behavior is “normal”.

He came to my house to pick up my baby. He was angry at the time but though normal. He’s still normal. He didn’t look like he was panicking at the time.

Hull also spoke about her daughter to NBCLA and recalled when she learned about the tragedy.

My baby always lights up the room with her big beautiful eyes. Leilani is only 1 year old. She is full of life, and she is very beautiful and well-liked.

They told me they had found my baby in the river, that her father had dropped her over the bridge in Long Beach. All I can imagine right now: does she scream? Is she afraid? Is she saying ‘dada?’ Did he do something with his bare hands before throwing her in the river?

Hull also told NBCLA that Leilani has a special relationship with her brother Zayveyon Burley.

She has an older brother, Zayveyon Burley…She loves him very much. Their bond is very special.

Hull said that Zayveyon asked about his sister.

My son kept asking me, ‘Where’s the baby? Where’s the baby?’. I can’t even tell him.

According to CBS News, Jayveyon Burley is being held on $215,000 bail. He will appear in court on Wednesday.
