Eva Mendes left Hollywood to become a mother



Eva Mendes is sharing about her decision to step out of the spotlight and focus her attention on motherhood. In a new interview, the actress explained that she did not feel any pressure to leave the entertainment industry, but instead felt “clear” after her decision. She has been with her co-star, actor Ryan Gosling, for more than a decade and they share two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 8.

“It was the easiest decision I ever made,” she said. Those were just the formative years. I want to be there for all of that.”

“It’s all about having two little people watching over you all day long,” she said of her relationship with her children, and how it makes her more interested in what she focuses on. “It’s scary but also good because it makes me try to be a better person every day.”

Mendes also talked about becoming a mother in her 40s, saying that many people seem to see it as a big deal. She doesn’t see it that way and doesn’t agree with people’s insistence that motherhood in your 20s is the only way to keep up with your kids.

“When I was 40, my pregnancy was a big deal for everyone, but for me it wasn’t a big deal,” she said. “When I was 42, I was pregnant with my second child and people said, ‘Oh my God, you’ll be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s.’ I said: ‘That’s the saddest, stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.'”

Gosling recently expressed her appreciation for having Mendes in her life, saying that he’s not only there for her personally but also professionally.

“I couldn’t be here without her,” Gosling said More at the launch of Humans fail in Los Angeles. “She’s like my acting coach. She’s actually become the best acting coach I’ve ever had, she’s helped me endlessly.”

And just as she supported him, he gave her book a shout out on the red carpet.

“It’s been several years in the making,” he said. “We read a lot of children’s books and this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s really about something beautiful.”
