Europe’s “Unprecedented 48°C Horror”…ESA, Media harshly criticized for manipulative reporting • Are you interested in that?

“The Biggest Climate Lie”: Last week, the news was everywhere: Temperatures in southern Europe soar to 48°C! But none of that is true.

The hysteria started when the media made headlines about the climate in Germany and elsewhere, like Relotius cartoon, Incorrect quote One The European Space Agency (ESA) July 13 report was sloppy and manipulativefirst mention “air” temperature:
Temperatures are heating up across Europe this week amid a period of intense and prolonged heat. And it has only just begun. The ESA’s initial report continued, only to later determine that it was in fact referring to surface temperature (emphasis added):
The animation below uses data from Copernicus Sentinel-3 radiometric instrument of the mission and showed ground surface temperatures across Italy from July 9 to 10. As the pictures clearly show, in some cities the surface of the earth exceeds 45°C, including Rome, Naples, Taranto and Foggia. Along the eastern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, temperatures have been recorded in many places above 50°C.”

ESA did not bother to mention that the surface temperature is much hotter than the air temperature at 2 meters.
“The most fierce climate lies”
“What we have experienced in the past few days is the most extreme climate since the start of temperature recording,” German report Here is Achtung Reichelt on the impact of ESA’s sloppy, manipulative press release and the media storm that followed: “The problem with that report is that none of it is true.”
In Sicily, temperatures reached just 32°C over the weekend – a far cry from 48°C, which shows a big difference between ground surface temperatures and readings at 2 meters above ground.
When the trick was exposed, Spiegel quietly changed the wording of the 14th report:

Spiegel changed the text (left) from 48°C with “many heat deaths” to (right): “48°C…but the measurements are not typical air temperature – could be significantly lower.”
Apparently the authorities and the media tried to get the public’s attention quickly, but were caught by careful readers.
