The US EPA proposed tough new vehicle emissions regulations for 2027-2032and perhaps the biggest takeaway is that while the target will encourage (and require, predictably) 67% EV sales by 2032 model year, it doesn’t compel them.
According to a poll earlier this week, Public support for EV incentives and very strong charging infrastructure, but Americans are not interested in buying their own electric car. They also don’t agree favorably to support EV mandates or even more stringent fuel economy standards.
And according to a recent interview quoting top Volkswagen executives in the US, VW has a plan 25 EVs eligible for a $7,500 EV tax credit in 2030—up from just one, likely, this year. It also hopes to use electric vehicles as a way to gain 10% market share in the US, which includes Porsche and Audi.
