Elon Musk says SpaceX and X headquarters moving to Texas, blames new CA transgender student privacy law

Elon Musk: SpaceX will move headquarters from California to Texas

SpaceX CEO and owner Elon Musk said Tuesday he will move the headquarters of both companies from California to Texas.

Musk announced the move in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-California) signing a new law on Tuesday that prohibits California school districts from requiring parents to notify them of a child’s change in gender identity.

“This is the last straw. Because of this law and many others before it, which attack both families and companies, SpaceX will now be moving its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk posted on X. He later added that X’s headquarters would also move from San Francisco to Austin.

“I made it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws like this would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,” he added.

In 2022, People magazine reported, Elon MuskMusk’s then-18-year-old daughter was granted permission to legally change her name and gender to Vivian Jenna Wilson. She dropped her surname Musk and took her mother’s maiden name, Justine Wilson.

When asked about his estranged transgender daughter in October 2022, Musk told Financial Times “Can’t win them all” and claims to have good relationships with all the other children.

Musk also told the Financial Times that his daughter’s decision was caused by “neo-Marxists” in educational institutions.

Musk recently support former President Donald Trump and is said to plan to contribute $45 million per month for a pro-Trump super PAC called America PAC.

Trump is expected to roll back transgender rights if elected president again this year.

The News 19 reported, citing a February 2023 Trump campaign video, that his proposals would “end Medicare and Medicaid funding for hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth, attempt to charge teachers with gender discrimination for affirming a student’s gender identity, and order federal agencies to end all programs that promote gender and transgender concepts at all ages.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics and other major health organizations including the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the World Health Organization all “support providing transgender youth with access to the health care they need.”

In 2021, Musk, who is also CEO of Teslamoved its automaker headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for more information, including whether the company is likely to shut down operations at Hawthorne.

When Tesla moved its headquarters to Texas, the company kept its Palo Alto office as an “engineering headquarters.”
