Melbourne-based Northern Health has begun rolling out e-prescribing in the Mental Health Department and outpatient clinics.
According to a press release, MediRecords’ cloud-based e-prescribing platform has just been integrated with PAS and clinical patient directory (CPF) software.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
This latest implementation of the MediRecords cloud platform enables instant electronic prescription submission to patients or their caregivers. It also comes with a QR code that is scanned at pharmacies for distribution, providing mental health patients with faster access to new and repeat medications.
The adoption of this FHIR-based technology also means that doctors no longer have to search second databases to find patient records.

MediRecords e-prescribing platform is was initially rolled out at Northern Health’s Victoria Online Emergency Department last July as part of an effort to reduce paperwork, postage and transportation costs.
Meanwhile, MediRecords CEO Matthew Galetto has announced that they will be releasing additional FHIR integration roadmaps for their customers throughout 2023.
The company is also now part of a consortium offering a new product Health Knowledge Management System for the Australian Defense Force. Galetto said its role in enabling data sharing through the project also has implications across Australia’s healthcare system. “This will help provide patients and clinicians with access to the right data at the right time, with significant safety benefits,” he stated.
