Louisiana animal control officers rushed to the scene after receiving a call about a dog found in a bathroom at Destrehan’s Splash Park. She is an elderly black Lab who appears to be pregnant. But upon closer inspection, they noticed that she was only slightly overweight. Someone left her chicken, which she quickly devoured. This causes her to be a bit bloated, but otherwise it’s fine. The puppy is also left with a vague note, which leads to the rest of the Ladybird story. Officers quickly learned that this wasn’t about cruelty to animals, but instead, it was about a family going through hard times.
Ladybug family
The message left to Ladybird read: “Good luck dogs – no traffic jam – come back soon – give my dog some water – come back tomorrow morning.” There is also a water bottle next to it. Officials brought Ladybird to Animal Shelter Parish St. Charles to keep her safe.
Ladybird’s human cycled back to the public bath in the morning just as his note claimed. When she wasn’t there, he called animal control. They informed him of where his dog was, so he reached out to the shelter with the full story.
“He called us and said he still wanted Ladybird, but only needed a couple of weeks to get it back on its feet,” said Dr. Jena Troxler, veterinarian and shelter supervisor. said. “Ladybug and [her human] was homeless, and he lived in [a shelter] trying to save his money so he and Ladybird can drive back to North Carolina, where he has family ready to help him get on his feet again. ”
The two have been best friends since Ladybird was six weeks old. They spent a lot of time traveling the world together, but sometimes, things got tough. They always have his family in North Carolina to return to though. But this time, they were stuck in Louisiana with no means of transportation.
Bring the ladybug home
Ladybird’s father was desperate to help bring her to North Carolina. He knew she was getting old, so he wanted her to spend the last years of her life in a familiar environment. The staff of the shelter were very touched by this story. So they reached out to the non-profit organization Turn Rescue into Pets, who helped raise money for Ladybird’s needs. They soon raised enough money to buy Ladybird’s crib, orthopedic bed, crib mat, and additional medical needs.
Better also helped by providing food and heartworm prevention for Ladybird. Later, Wings of Rescue planned to accommodate the puppy on an upcoming transport to North Carolina. Ladybird’s father remained in touch all this time.
“You really get to know how much Ladybird means to him and we’re excited to be involved in keeping her safe until they can be together again,” Troxler said. “She is definitely a favorite employee here. Ladybird has had a pretty recent adventure. “
When Ladybird was healthy enough, she boarded the transport that took her there Virginia SPCA . Beach. From there, an employee drove her to her relative’s home, where she was moved when she saw a familiar face. Now, she can live her senior years in a loving home, and it’s all thanks to so many kind people who have taken care of her.
