Ducati 907 IE – Successor to 750 and 906 Paso
Ducati 907 IE
With Phil Aynsley
In one In the previous column, I explored the development and history of Ducati’s 750 Pasonow to see the final Paso model (although it is not officially named Paso) – Ducati 907 IE
The 907 IE replaced the 750 Paso’s successor, the 906 Paso, in 1991 and saw significant changes to the running gear and engine with many parts from the 851 being used. The cranks have been strengthened and a new clutch fitted.
One big improvement was the use of the 851’s Weber fuel injector (suitably modified for the 2-valve head) – which finally eliminated the troublesome Weber carburetor system that the 750 and 906 used.
The air intake system has been reworked, now with the intakes located near the steering head. Power is increased to 90 hp at 8,500 rpm. With a dry weight of 215 kg, the top speed is about 220 km/h.
The chassis is carried over from the 906s but with the 851 alloy swingarm now used. The biggest difference is the change from 16-inch to 17-inch wheels.
This requires the front fork to be stretched to provide enough clearance between the tire and the front cylinder head when braking.
As a result, the car is now taller and has a 40 mm longer wheelbase compared to the 906, combined with an unchanged chassis shape (apart from the wheelbase) specially designed for 16 wheels. inches, which means the 907’s handling isn’t quite as stellar as its predecessors.
Larger front discs are fitted with 4-cylinder Brembo brake calipers. The rear disc is reduced in size.
The most notable styling change is the addition of a NACA duct on the “display” (which remains monolithic).
Production ceased at the end of 1992 with just over 2,300 907 IEs built.
