DOD, Leidos Partnership roll out new EHR capabilities to 6 southern states
Military Medical Systems’ MHS Genesis tools now include new patient calculations, medical coding, patient registration and access.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
The Department of Defense and the Leidos Partnership for Defense Health, which designed and developed the MHS Genesis, have deployed the new electronic health records in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and South Carolina.
Along with the rollout, MHS Genesis will improve communication between DOD’s clinical and business teams and disclose cost details, Liz Porter, president of Leidos Health Group, said in the announcement.
“Revenue Cycle is a fully integrated platform that will replace paper-based methods and introduce a clinical-based patient accounting system, including medical coding software,” she said. and comprehensive billing database for military medical system.
Holly Joers, program executive director at DOD’s Office of Program Operations, said:
DOD is upgrading from Tricare Online across military medical facilities in the US and abroad in 23 waves, with each wave targeting a specific region with an average of three hospitals and multiple clinic locations .
Cerner EHR is about 67% deployed, according to the Leidos announcement. It is currently available at more than 1,800 MHS locations, reaching 5.1 million DOD beneficiaries.
The Leidos Partnership also includes Accenture and Henry Schein One and has more than 35 businesses supporting the delivery of MHS Genesis, as well as dental systems, identity management and cybersecurity.
DOD expects to complete deployment to all of its garrison facilities by the end of 2023.
TREND TO BIGGER WOMAN
While the Leidos Partnership has been working on improving the DOD’s EHR since 2015 and implementation has been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, MHS Genesis was rolled out to 12 states last year.
DOD’s evolution into revenue cycle management for EHR replaces previous paper-based methods and complements clinical-driven accounting with a comprehensive billing database.
ON PROFILE
“The MHS GENESIS system continues to leverage commercial best practices to help improve clinical outcomes with each implementation,” Joers said in the announcement.
