Ncuti Gatwa will take on the role of The Doctor from Jodie Whittaker.

The 29-year-old boy will become the 14th Doctor later Whittaker announced last July that she would be leaving the role.

Gatwa, a Scottish actor born in Rwanda, plays Eric Effiong in the Netflix series Sex Education, a role for which he won the Bafta Scotland Award in the actor category.

Whittaker was appointed the first female Doctor in 2017.

Writer Russell T Davies will return as host after departing in 2009.

Davies, who was responsible for the Doctor Who revival in 2005, will return to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary in 2023, the BBC previously said.
