Did your boss send you a lovely gift? A machine that tells them what to buy

There I was thinking the new year is not the gift i expected.

more technically incorrect

Then a cheerful email popped up from a PR person who was definitely even more fun to brighten up my day.

The subject line is filled with joy: “Gifting changes: Rebranding the gifting concept in 2023.”

I’m used to the idea that a lot of people, companies, and bad things need to rebrand. But gift giving? Don’t we all agree that gift giving is always a good thing, unless you’re giving someone an item you know they’ll despise?

By merely thinking that, I showed my ignorance (again). This is Dataworld. We’re just crypto, ready to be tabulated and manipulated, so why not a gifting machine?

I dug deeper. This is a company called access deskboasts: “Using data-driven giveaways to increase sales, close more deals, and connect with more customers.”

And, it seems, make employees happier too.

Surely there is nothing like getting a gift from your boss and knowing that the machine chooses it right?

Then again, have you ever received a gift from your boss and thought they actually chose it? And this is the “global, data-driven only gifting platform” that insists I consider their service a gift.

Why? Reachdesk says that’s because 68 percent of people consider gift-giving “one of their love languages.” Furthermore, 37% of employees seem to feel that recognition is the most important thing to them. (I suppose the other 63% just want the money.)

I knew more. Conveniently, Reachdesk has cool YouTube videos. A remarkable data reveal that “Electronic gifts such as coffee vouchers or restaurant cards account for 70% of [sic] all gifts sent on Reachdesk.”

You mean bosses need a machine to tell them people like free money?

I also learned from this video that the US is the #1 gift-giving country in the world. Yes, we really are the gift that keeps on giving.

And do you believe that different departments have different preferences when it comes to gifts?

Types of personnel sending e-Gifts. Marketing teams prefer to send gift packages. Well, they’re always desperate for attention, aren’t they?

But what about sales and partner groups, I hear you cry. Their mission is to send new cookies, cupcakes and drinks.

It’s amazing how data can enlighten your load, isn’t it?

There are many more. Really. Reachdesk has another video explains how it works and how it actually uses the phrase “tried and trusted”.

The company came up with ideas for “country-specific campaigns.” Maybe German employees are less interested in free coffee than Austrian employees?

But how does all this actually work? How does Reachdesk have such insights into the world’s hedonistic psychology? How can it help you not only satisfy your employeesBut attract more customers for your business?

The company says it’s all based on “analyzing the campaigns that are most effective at specific times that matter, combined with our expertise in messaging, budgeting and gifting best practices. “

Please forgive me if I mused: “Is there a best practice guide for gift-giving?” Maybe I missed it, because I have many things in my life.

However, is it a bit sad that the data has to tell you when to send a gift and which one to send?

I’ve always thought gifts say as much about the giver as the receiver. In fact, they say a lot about how the giver sees the receiver. Do you want your employees or potential customers to know who you really are?

Oh, what am I saying? People need to rebrand themselves every six months, right? Better let the data take care of it.
