Diabetes WA reveals data breach

Diabetes WA, the peak diabetes regulatory body in Western Australia, reported unauthorized access to the personal information of some of its contacts.

Based on initial investigation, hackers may have accessed the following information: name, address, date of birth, email, phone number, marital status, aboriginal status, Medicare number, referring doctor and type of diabetes.

The organization has contacted affected individuals and asked them to apply for a replacement Medicare number.

However, they still assured that “no detailed medical records or detailed clinical information were accessed.” “The breach was quickly detected and completely contained,” it added.

Following this incident, Diabetes WA said it would “further strengthen our technological security measures to protect us from potential future attacks”. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner has also been notified of this matter.


My health record allows access to NHI

Te Whatu Ora recently announced that it has enabled access to more health information on its latest My Health Record platform.

In addition to being able to view vaccination history and COVID-19 test results, users can now view and update detailed information on National Health Indicators, High Use Health Cards and Epidemic Cards Community Service. They can also view COVID-19 results and some NHI details of their children whose accounts are linked to theirs.

Michael Dreyer, regional director of Te Whatu Ora Digital Channels, added: “We are now empowering consumers and whales to proactively identify their own information, including race and gender”.

More information will be available soon on My Health Record, including current and past medications and test results. The old My Covid Record used during the height of the global pandemic has been redeveloped as My Health Record to provide secure, single-use access to people’s personal health information New Zealanders.


Dispatch support solution sought for NSW Ambulance

Endoscopy Hospital SA digitizes patient pathways

Northern and Southern Endoscopy, the first independent endoscopy hospital in South Australia, recently digitized the patient treatment pathway with Personify Care.

The hospital handled a lot of pre-admission calls and relied heavily on paper forms for manual risk triage and screening. It now allows patients to complete a pre-visit health assessment online upon referral.

On the staff side, they can now review patient risk status on the dashboard, quickly identifying high-risk patients through clinical alerts.

Personality care The platform also automates triage and sends patients digital confirmation of their procedure details, personalized bowel preparation instructions, and informed financial consent.

“[T]His change not only reduced the administrative burden but also paved the way for significant time savings in nursing and administrative tasks,” chief administrative officer Kelly Carpenter attested. The hospital shared that more than 9 in 10 patients are now confirming their appointments through the platform’s digital route while 82% have adopted it alongside their care.
