De La Hoya says Canelo needs a new coach to beat Bivol

Oscar De La Hoya has ruled out Canelo Alvarez’s chance to beat Dmitry Bivol in a rematch.

The ‘golden boy’, who once promoted the Mexican team, says the only hope the 31-year-old has is avenge the loss he suffered in May is to improve footwork and change coaches.

If he gets past Gennadiy Golovkin in September, the undisputed super-middleweight champion has said he wants a rematch with Bivol.

However, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (who was promoted by De La Hoya) looks set to challenge the WBA Light Heavyweight champion first after the sanctioning authority ordered the war to be waged.

In a media debate, filmed by FightHypeDe La Hoya gave his thoughts on a potential second fight between Bivol and Canelo.

“I am speaking from experience, from everything. Canelo vs Bivol again, things will get worse. “

“That’s the key point. Style creates combat. “

De La Hoya made it clear that he believes Canelo needs to get rid of longtime coach Eddy Reynoso if he has any chance of avenging his loss:

“Unless Canelo changes coaches and he gets better with his footwork.”

“I think Canelo is too ordinary for someone like Bivol, who uses his head and wits. If you look at Canelo’s loss, with just Mayweather and Bivol, he loses because of his footwork, he loses because someone else’s legs are light and he’s too heavy.

“If he changes coaches, he has a shot at beating Bivol.”
