Hard-hitting super middleweight David Benevidez is tipped to take on Jose Uzcategui this weekend at Phoenix’ Footprint Center. However, Uzcategui tested positive for the banned substance recombinant Erythropoietin, and was subsequently removed from the fight. Now 24-0 undefeated Benevidez, a two-time WBC super middleweight belt holder, will face 16-2-1 Kryone Davis at Footprint Center in a scheduled 10th round match in supermiddleweight.

Benevidez, who was last seen stopping Ronald Ellis from returning in March, would certainly love to find his way into the ring with a Canelo Alvarez. He will want a good look, then, against Davis, who was last seen winning a unanimous decision in September against Martez McGregor. Benevidez was clearly expected to win this matchup, though it’s worth noting that Davis took on Anthony Dirrell, who looked excellent last weekend, with a draw last February.

Jose Benavidez Jr will also appear on Saturday’s card. Resident 37-1 Phoenix hasn’t fought since losing in the 12th and final round to Terence Crawford in 2018. He’s still only 28 years old, so if he’s in good form, Benavidez could have one. Very good career ahead. However, to progress, Benavidez will have to overcome Francisco Emanuel Torres 17-3 on Saturday. He may not be a powerful puncher, and he may have three losses on his record, but it’s worth noting Torres’ most recent loss in 2017. Since that time, martial The Argentinian athlete has won 9 in a row. His bout with Benavidez is scheduled for 10 in the super heavyweight division.

Saturday’s pass will air on Showtime starting at 10 p.m. ET.
