Entering the electric scooter market is the DAB 1 Alpha 2024, which will be produced in a limited run of 400 units and will cost €14,900 (RM75,731). The first model from DAB, the 1 Alpha was launched after the French company was acquired by Peugeot Motorcycles.

Originally conceived as an electric scooter popular with music artists and fashion designer Burberry, the 1 Alpha features a pioneering design. Very similar to Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen1 Alpha is crafted in Beaulieu-Mandeure and designed in Bayonne, France.

A notable feature of DAB’s design philosophy is the 1 Alpha’s battery, which is fully repairable, removable and recyclable, eliminating any concerns about battery life and utility. The battery itself is a 72-volt lithium-ion unit with a maximum capacity of 7.1 kWh, giving a maximum range of 150 km and a controlled top speed of 130 km/h.

Power is provided by a brushless DC motor with a nominal output of 11 kW and a peak output of 25.5 kW, equivalent to 34.6 hp with regenerative braking. Torque, meanwhile, is claimed to be 395 Nm at the rear wheels, transmitted by a DAB gearbox and a Gates carbon drive belt.

Using an onboard charger and domestic current, the 1 Alpha takes three hours to charge from zero to full, while a Type 2 charger adapter is available as an optional extra. On the handlebars, there’s a blue “Nitrous” button that, when pressed, delivers a short burst of power, a nod to the video game “Need for Speed: Underground 2.”

Premium components are used on the 1 Alpha, including radial-mount four-piston Brembo calipers at the front and single-piston Brembo calipers at the rear, while Peugeot provides two-wheel ABS. There are two colour options available – W-White and MGT Grey – as well as a customisation option at an extra cost.

Paioli provides the suspension for the 1 Alpha, with 46mm upside-down titanium nitrided forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock with an external reservoir. Faba supplies the 17-inch wire-spoked wheels, shod in 120/70 tires up front and 150/60 at the rear.

Bodywork components are made from recycled carbon fiber from Airbus Industrie, including the front fenders and frame protectors. The trend for high-quality components continues in the Alcantra-upholstered seats, as well as the Alcantra-lined glove compartment that hides the 1 Alpha’s charging port.

All the necessary information is displayed on a 2.8-inch LCD screen that also doubles as a front number plate holder, and there are four riding modes – Eco, Standard, Sport, Nitrous – and a reverse mode. The Alpha 1’s weight is listed as 125kg with seat height set at 880mm as standard and 840mm for the low seat.
