Claressa Shields-Savannah Marshall Official October 15
By: Sean Crose
It is said that the postponed undisputed middleweight championship match between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall will be rescheduled for October 15. Now it has been officially announced. “New Day. Same thoughts,” read a Top Rated Twitter post that came out Tuesday. Below that post is a promotional photo for the card. What makes Shields-Marshall a battle of particular interest is the fact that Marshall is the only fighter to ever defeat Shields, albeit on an amateur level.
Of course, the Shields-Marshall fight is supposed to take place on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London. However, the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 caused the duel to be postponed. The rescheduled card will still be discounted at O2, which has hosted some of boxing’s bigger fights.
Mikaela Mayer will also be on the list, taking on the unification fight with IBO and WBC title athlete Alycia Baumgardner. This card will close the curtain on the same day as Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight fight with Robert Helenius. The fight with Wilder, however, is taking place at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center, thousands of miles from the O2 Arena and a complete time zone. Die Hard will be able to watch both live events hours apart without needing to switch from one to the other.
