Stellantis is starting to reveal its SEMA with a trio of programs truck from Jeep and Ram. While the total number of custom cars in-house is a bit less than it was a few years ago, they are still quite striking. They also preview potential new products from brands.
Jeep CJ Surge Concept
Just like in the past, Stellantis has built a stunning re-mod. This car started out as a CJ SUV, and it has a real vision of the future. Under the hood is a 268-horsepower electric motor. It appears to be a slightly different setup from what was used on the Jeep Magneto concept, which had more power. Jeep doesn’t mention the gearbox, it’s just that it has a two-speed four-wheel-drive. The transfer case sends power to the Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) 44-axle Dana tank. Power is provided by a single 400 volt, 24-module lithium-ion battery the battery package mounted behind the seat. What’s particularly interesting about all of this is that Jeep says this truck is a build to explore what can go into an EV Mopar converter. So we could see something along these lines available in the next few ears to go against the GM eCrate kit still in development.
Of course, Jeep didn’t stop with just fitting an electric powertrain into the CJ Surge. It has been raised 2 inches and is fitted with 18-inch Black Rhino wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires. The body appears to have been stretched and the hood has a custom electric dome. The windshield has been chopped to 2 inches and wider fenders have been fitted. JPP JK bumpers are mounted front and rear along with JPP skids. It also comes with custom rock rails, roll cage, bikini top and orange, black and blue colors color mechanism. We’re particularly interested in the houndstooth seat insert, but the whole thing is gorgeous and has us excited for more EV conversion options.
Beat 1500 Backcountry concept X
While the CJ Surge is about what’s underneath, the Ram 1500 Backcountry X is all about what’s behind. It features custom parts called RamPack and RamRack, each of which expands the truck’s cargo capacity. RamPack includes a pair of headboard-mounted storage boxes. They add an extra 12.3 cubic feet of locked, weather-sealed storage, in addition to conventionally manufactured RamBox nightstands. RamPack boxes also have shelves and lanyards to ensure everything stays safe and organized. They fit well with the truck’s lines, but part of that might be the stripes that accentuate them.
RamRack is an evolution of a previous conceptual idea of a sliding roof rail. It mainly consists of a metal tube frame surrounding the RamPack along with Thule sliders. It fits great in this application, although we’re not sure what it would look like without the RamPack.
In addition to those parts, Ram added a work bench to the back door. It features conversion tables, an angle finder and provisions for mounting clamps and woodworking hardware. All of these sections sound like they could be really useful and popular. In the case of the rear door desk, Ford has provided a similar feature on the F-150. So we could see them all eventually appear as production accessories if there’s enough interest.
Again, there are many other features added to this Ram besides the special prototype parts. It gets sprayed floor mats, 2-inch Mopar lifters with Fox shocks, 20-inch Fuel wheels, 37-inch tires, Mopar grille, Mopar off-road lights and Mopar side steps, all available now now. The interior features custom green upholstery with orange stitching, extra handles and a custom RamVac for cleanup. That’s another feature that we could see becoming a handy accessory in the future.
Ram 1500 TRX Gold Shot
Ironically, the Ram 1500 TRX-based concept might be the lightest of the three. It is mainly a place to display current Ram accessories such as RamBar, Mopar rock rails and 5-inch exhaust pipes. It also features custom skid plates and LED off-road concept lights. 37-inch tires are wrapped around Black Rhino wheels. And of course, it comes in a vivid black and gold paint job that matches the black and gold Alcantara leather and interior.
