Cities: Skylines’ next major DLC will let you build and manage airports better

I’ve always liked the idea that a city builder finally contains some other management game in it. Cities: Skyline take another step in that direction with the next DLC, which lets you build sprawling airports when it has a flight in January.

Here is the announcement trailer:

DLC allows you to build modular airport buildings, click terminals together, and connect buildings via a “lounge network” in Paradox website. You set the fare and you will unlock new airport buildings to build depending on the overall success of the airport.

More importantly, you can also link your airport to other forms of public transport, allowing your citizens to take buses and rail links to catch their flights. As a one-time frequent traveler, I would not favor any airport that is not linked to a neighboring city by rail.

Cities: Skylines Airports is out next year on January 25th and costs $13. As with all Cities: Skylines DLC, it makes me wonder if Colossal Order is satisfied, having released nothing but DLC in the past six years, or whether the success of Skylines has imprisoned them. It is, at least, an excellent juggler, and lives up to our best management game and build game list.

The Airports reveal comes a week after the VR spin-off announcement Cities: VR, from another developer.
