China Medical University Hospital ranks third globally in 2022 HIMSS . Digital Health Index

The China Medical University Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan has proven its capabilities in digital health by scoring well above the global average in the latest survey. HIMSS digital health indicator.

DHI measures an organization’s progress in building a digital health ecosystem in four dimensions: predictive analytics, interoperability, predictive analytics, governance, and human-powered health support and workforce.

Based on the HIMSS assessment, CMUH scores 348/400 for DHI, higher than the global average of 170 and the Asia-Pacific average of 163 in 2022. The hospital did a great job in this regard. enabling interoperability while excelling in the areas of human-assisted health, predictive analytics, governance, and workforce.

CMUH attributes this achievement to the development and implementation of three intelligent platforms that have led to improvements in clinical practice. One of them is an AI-powered app Smart germicidal system, helps to detect early and quickly pathogenic bacteria strains. Since adopting this technology, it has reduced the near miss rate in antibiotic prescriptions from 12.1% to 0%.

The hospital also credits its two other platforms, the Remote Myocardial Infarction Diagnostic System and the Integrated Smart ARDS Lifesaving Device, for its high DHI ratings.

HIMSS also commended the hospital for its patient-centric services, including smart areas that have realized efficiency in patient management using a single screen and the CMUH mobile app. Streamline patient admissions and enable remote care monitoring.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

CMUH’s goal is to measure its digital health capabilities against global standards and identify areas for improvement. The hospital sees its DHI scores as an opportunity to partner with HIMSS and other leading global health systems to drive digital transformation.

In addition, CMUH looks for opportunities to enhance its digital health ecosystem and gather support to make the right investment decisions by identifying priority areas.

“We decided to carry out the DHI assessment because we believe that HIMSS smart hospitals scores and ratings will be objective and unbiased,” said Professor Der-Yang Cho, director of CMUH.

TREND TO BIGGER

The data-driven model of care underpins CMUH’s digital transformation. Since the introduction of 5G on its network, it has been able to collect data from wearable devices via the cloud, enabling telemedicine. It can also streamline its workflow and deliver personalized healthcare.

In 2019, CMUH achieved Stage 7 certification for the HIMSS Electronic Medical Records Intake Model, which has been a major contributor to the school’s current DHI rating.

The hospital has now established itself as one of the top global health systems – all from Asia-Pacific – having achieved high scores in the DHI. Based on scores of institutions that have undergone DHI assessment in 2022, South Korea’s Samsung Medical Center leads the global rankings at 365/400, followed by Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (349/400), also in Taiwan.
