Cardi B pleads guilty, solves a case in NYC club brawl: NPR

NEW YORK – Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi settled a years-long criminal case stemming from a couple brawls at New York City strip clubs by pleading guilty Thursday to a settlement requiring her to perform 15 days serve the community.
The “WAP” 29-year-old singer agreed to a conditional discharge as soon as her case was about to go to trial, saying in a statement: “Part of growing up and growing up is being responsible for his actions.”
Cardi B, a New York native whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors stemming from the August 2018 fights. Ten other counts, including two felonies, were dropped. cancel. Two accomplices also pleaded guilty.
According to prosecutors, Cardi B and her entourage targeted employees of the Angels Strip Club in Flushing, Queens, over an apparent personal dispute.
During an altercation, chairs, bottles and hookah pipes were thrown as the group argued with a bartender. She and another employee suffered minor injuries.
“No one is above the law,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. “In pleading guilty today, Ms. Belcalis Almanzar and two accomplices accepted responsibility for their actions. The office was pleased with the resolution, which included appropriate community service.”
In 2019, Cardi B turned down a plea deal that would have meant her conditional discharge. Prosecutors then presented the case to a grand jury and obtained an indictment that included two felony counts.
“I’ve made some bad decisions in the past that I’m not afraid to face and master,” said Cardi B, adding that she wants to set a good example for her two children.
“These moments don’t define me and they don’t reflect who I am now,” she added. “I look forward to working with my family and friends through this situation and getting back to the things I love most — my music and my fans.”
