Capturing Creatures in Lembeh 2023 Underwater photography workshop has ended


The 2023 annual underwater photography conference in Lembeh is full—twice! This year’s conference is a more special event, as it not only Lembeh . Resortthe 10th annual event, but also the first conference since the pandemic. To mark the occasion, instead of holding one workshop, the resort organized two workshops—in a row. This means a record 43 participants in two weeks!

Three professional photographers joined the resort to co-host the event: Erin Quigley, Joel Penner And Jennifer Penner, who provided daily presentations, seminars and face-to-face sessions with the participants. They shared their knowledge and expertise with the participants, and joined them underwater to spot some truly amazing creatures in the Lembeh Strait.


Capturing Creatures grows stronger each year, and the images created this year depict some of Lembeh’s most striking features mud diving Highlights. Participants dived into Lembeh hotspots such as Nudifalls, TK, Hairball, Aero Bajo and Serena. Lembeh Resort’s diving instructors certainly didn’t succumb to the pressure, and they delivered some remarkable creature sightings, including blue-ringed octopus, vibrant cuttlefish, and hairy frogfish. , seahorses and wunderpus, just to name a few!

Lembeh Resort dive center manager, Brigitte Gassner, reported the following: “43 participants, 16 dive instructors, 3 world-class photography experts, 4 boats, 1,161 boat dives, 16 campfire dives, 8 black water dives, and uncountable fun along the way! It’s definitely been a busy two weeks.”


Erin Quigley is no stranger to Lembeh scuba diving and is a great addition to the professional team. Erin is an Adobe ACE certified professional specializing in post-production techniques using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. She is also an award-winning underwater photographer and creator GoAskErin.com, provides live instruction and post-centric resources developed specifically for underwater shooters. Erin was sure to stay busy during both workshops, sharing her Adobe Lightroom skills and smart tips with the participants!

Joel and Jennifer Penner are both experienced Lembeh strait gunmen and joint owners of New Media Company Limited, a media and events company based in Northern California. Joel and Jennifer create underwater photos that capture audiences and convey the beauty of what lies beneath the waves. Their shared love for the ocean is boundless; if they could, they would be in the water every day with their camera! By sharing their passion for the ocean through stills and video, they hope to raise awareness of the importance of ocean conservation and marine habitat conservation for future generations to enjoy. .



During the workshop, Joel and Jennifer held many presentations and spent time alone with the participants to advise them on photography and image editing techniques. They also managed to capture some stunning photos and videos themselves!
