While the EOS C70 features the same Super 35 sensor found in the EOS C300 Mark III CameraThe C80 boasts a 6K full-frame back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensor with three base ISOs (800, 3,200, and 12,800) like the sensor found in the new camera. PRESS RELEASE

Canon Introduces EOS C80 6K Full-Frame Camcorder

New EOS C80 RF-Mount Camera Features 6K Full-Frame Stacked CMOS Sensor, Back-Illuminated, Triple ISO, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, and 12G-SDI

MELVILLE, NY, September 9, 2024 – Canon USA Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is pleased to introduce the new EOS C80 cinema camera, with a native RF mount and full-frame back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, designed for filmmakers who need a full-featured camcorder in a compact body.

6K Full-Frame Back-illuminated Stacked CMOS Sensor

The Canon EOS C80 features a 6K, back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor with a triple base ISO, allowing the camera to deliver stunning images in a wide range of lighting conditions. Base ISOs of 800, 3200, and 12,800 maximize the camera’s full dynamic range.

The EOS C80 also features Canon’s latest Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Dual Pixel AF II. The placement of the back-illuminated stacked sensor allows for excellent light-gathering efficiency, expanding the sensor area that can be used for autofocus. The sensor also offers fast readout speeds, as well as superb 4K image quality from 6K oversampling.

12-G SDI and multiple interfaces

In addition to moving to a full-frame sensor, the EOS C80 has also improved upon its predecessor by adding 12G-SDI output, allowing you to transmit your uncompressed video signal using a secure cable connection. The camera’s design includes a variety of interfaces including HDMI, mini-XLR audio input, time code, built-in Wi-Fi® and Ethernet connectivity. This internet connectivity allows the camera to be controlled remotely via our IP-based XC Protocol using the Canon Remote Camera Control App (available free of charge on the Canon USA website) or our Multi-Camera Control App for iPhone (available free of charge on the App Store).

Compact design

The compact and lightweight EOS C80 camera fits into drones, gimbals, tripods, or any configuration that requires compact size and light weight.

The camera is ergonomically designed with a new, lightweight grip. The multi-function shoe sits just above the LCD screen and joystick controller for easy control and menu navigation.

Recording options

The EOS C80 can record up to 6K 30P in Cinema RAW Light mode. Other recording options include our standard XF-AVC codec which can record 10-bit 4:2:2 with oversampling from the 6K sensor, producing rich, smooth detail without the need to crop the image from the sensor.

Additionally, autofocus is enabled when shooting in slow or fast motion at resolutions up to 4K 120P.

Additionally, the EOS C80 camera features two additional recording codecs, XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S. These formats were first introduced on the EOS C400 camera and feature an easy-to-manage naming system and folder structure, while recording in the familiar MP4 format while preserving metadata.

Pricing and Availability

The Canon Cinema EOS C80 Full-Frame Camera is expected to be available in November 2024 for an estimated retail price of $5,499.00*. For more information, please visit www.usa.canon.com.

Firmware Update for EOS C400

The EOS C400 will receive a firmware update in October 2024 that will enable autofocus when shooting slow or fast motion at resolutions up to 4K 120P.
