California’s Sierra Nevada sets all-time snowfall record in December – Are you floating for it?






















Despite the drought claims, they broke the previous record of 179 ″ of snow in December set in 1970!

This is notification from the Sierra Snow Lab on January 1st:

The last inch has fallen in the last 24 hours (before 4pm yesterday). Our record for the most snowy December recorded in the lab is currently 214″ (544 cm).

The lot of the year 2021 is snowing in red. 5%-95% quantile is represented by light blue shaded area and 25%-75% quantile is represented by dark blue shaded area.

The California Department of Water Resources tracks the eight-station index, which first began in 1920. It is currently matching the wettest and second wettest season.
