BYD Seal Dynamic EV 2024 launched in Malaysia – base power 204 PS/310 Nm, 460 km range, priced at RM163,800
This morning, Sime Darby Beyond Auto officially introduced the BYD Seal Dynamic Standard Range, completing the EV sedan lineup in Malaysia. This new variant significantly reduces the entry price of the country’s best-selling EV model. Price RM163,800 (actual price, not on-road price), the Dynamic is RM16,000 cheaper than the higher-spec Premium at RM179,800 and RM36,000 cheaper than the Performance at RM199,800, both of which are released in February.
In terms of powertrain, the Dynamic is powered by a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. This is the same unit as seen on the Episode 3 SUV and Dolphin Premium Expanded Rangeand identical output configuration, with 201 hp (204 PS or 150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque.
That’s down from the 308 PS (313 PS or 230 kW) and 360 Nm of torque on the Premium ER, and significantly lower than the combined output of 523 PS (530 PS or 390 kW) and 670 Nm on the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive Performance. All of this translates easily into acceleration times, with the Dynamic hitting 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds, compared to 5.9 seconds for the Premium and 3.8 seconds for the Performance.
Unlike the Premium ER and Performance which are equipped with an 82.5 kWh Blade lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which offers a range of 570 km and 520 km respectively according to WLTP, the Dynamic is equipped with a 61.4 kWh Blade battery, good enough to give the car a range of up to 460 km (WLTP).
Like the two higher-spec models, the Dynamic supports AC Type 2 charging at up to 7kW, but the smaller capacity battery means it can be fully charged in 8.6 hours via this route, much quicker than the 15.2 hours required for the higher capacity pack on the Premium and Performance. However, its maximum DC charging rate is 110kW (30-80% SoC in 32 minutes) rather than 150kW on the other two variants.
A quick rundown of other relevant figures. The Seal, which is powered by the automaker’s e-platform 3.0, is 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,460mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,920mm. In terms of curb weight, the Dynamic tips the scales at 1,922kg, which is significantly lighter than the Premium’s 2,055kg and the Performance’s 2,185kg. Boot space is consistent across the range, with 400 litres in the rear and 50 litres in the front.
In terms of specs, the Dynamic has pretty much everything you’ll find on the range. Kit includes LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, as well as retractable door handles and a panoramic roof. However, it rides on 18-inch alloy wheels (and 225/50 Giti Comfort 225 tyres), unlike the other two, which ride on 19-inch wheels (and 235/45 Continental EcoContact 6 Q rubber).
Inside, aside from the faux leather upholstery instead of leather on the Premium and Performance trims (you can’t really tell the difference with the naked eye), everything else on the other two trims can be found here.
These include a 15.6-inch central touchscreen – which can be switched between the usual landscape/portrait orientation – and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel that makes up the display, as well as a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system.
Other standard equipment includes heated/ventilated driver/passenger seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry/start, NFC, head-up display, two wireless mobile device chargers, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
There are two exterior colour options for the Seal Dynamic, including Cosmos Black and Aurora White, excluding the Atlantis Grey and Arctic Blue available on higher variants. The car comes with a six-year/150,000km warranty, an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty and an eight-year/150,000km powertrain warranty.
