Breeders’ Cup Nomination Discount Ends July 15


Racehorse owners not currently nominated for the Breeders’ Cup program may nominate their racehorses at a preferential rate on or before July 15 for entry into this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championship, which will be held November 1-2 at Del Mar.

All horses must be nominated, either as foals or racehorses, to be eligible to compete in any of the 14 Breeders’ Cup World Championship races, which offer more than $34 million in annual prize money and awards. Additionally, a Breeders’ Cup nominated horse is eligible to compete in all Breeders’ Cup prize money and awards programs for the entirety of its racing career without any further nomination payments.

The discount for nomination is as follows:

  • A 2-year-old racehorse of a Breeders’ Cup nominated stallion may enter the program for a fee of $12,000 (all fees are in US dollars). This one-time nomination fee makes the racehorse eligible for the Breeders’ Cup for its entire racing career.
  • Racehorses aged 3 years and over who are born in the Northern Hemisphere and whose sire is a nominated stallion will receive a 50% discount on the regular racehorse nomination fee (listed below). Racehorses aged 3 years and over who are born in the Southern Hemisphere can be nominated at a 25% discount on the regular nomination fee.
  • All nominated racehorses are eligible to compete in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship during their racing careers.
  • A $10,000 nomination prize will be awarded to the person who nominates any winning racehorse in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series: Win and You’re In race.
  • The Nominee Award is given through all finishing positions in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship.

After the July 15 discount deadline, the price for all non-nominated runners will return to the standard horse nomination fee of $100,000 or more until October 21, when all runners must be pre-registered for Breeders’ Cup World Championship races.

Racehorse owners of non-nominated stallions can also take advantage of the discounted entry price on or before July 15. Two-year-olds of non-nominated stallions can enter the program for $18,000; Northern Hemisphere stallions 3 years and older for $100,000; and Southern Hemisphere stallions 3 years and older for $50,000.
