Boeing halts testing of 777X aircraft after discovering damage to one of the jet’s structures

Boeing aircraft Boeing Co. said Monday that it has halted flight tests of its 777X aircraft after discovering structural damage to one of the wide-body planes.

The company said it discovered the damage to the custom part, which it said sits between the engine and the plane’s structure, during scheduled maintenance. It has since grounded three other 777-9s in its test fleet. Boeing said no further test flights are scheduled for the other planes.

“Our team is replacing the part and collecting any revenue from the part and will resume flight testing when ready,” Boeing said in a statement. According to Boeing’s website, it said it has notified the Federal Aviation Administration and customers who have ordered 481 777Xs.
