BMW M2 2025 launched – higher performance from 3.0L biturbo engine with 480 horsepower/600 Nm capacity, fewer physical buttons
The BMW M2 generation G87 has been updated, less than two years since the base rear-wheel-drive M division’s offering debuted launches in October 2022.
The powertrain for the G87 M2 continues to be the S58 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine and has now been upgraded to produce 480 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and maximum torque of 600 rpm. Output power is still sent exclusively to the rear wheels and the M2 continues to be offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission or an optional 6-speed manual transmission.

To accelerate 0-200 km/h, this time is also shortened by 0.6 seconds for both automatic and manual transmission versions, to 12.9 seconds and 13.7 seconds respectively. The G87 M2’s top speed continues to be electronically limited to 250 km/h, although this limit can be raised to 285 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.
The wheels continue to have staggered front and rear sizes, measuring 19 inches and 20 inches in diameter, respectively. They come in a standard black finish, although a silver finish is optional as seen in these images. A carbon fiber roof continues to be equipped, helping to reduce weight by 6 kg and lower the vehicle’s center of gravity.
Inside, the revised G87 M2 is equipped with an updated cabin, starting with a new flat-bottomed steering wheel and revised spokes, along with a 12 o’clock marker; The pair of buttons M1 and M2 continue to be present for storing presets.
Optionally available is an M Alcantara steering wheel and both this and the standard leather trim can be optioned with heating. The M Sports seats are upholstered in Vernasca leather and can be optioned in a red and black color scheme, while the M Carbon seats as part of the M Race Track package can now be optioned separately.
Displays on the updated G87 M2 are powered by a BMW curved display cluster, including a 12.3-inch driver instrument display and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, running on the OS BMW 8.5 and controlled via iDrive.
Here, the control surfaces have been changed and the climate control system functions are now operated digitally via the touch menu in the area below the display or by voice commands. The reduction of physical buttons in the cockpit is combined with a redesigned instrument panel, while the ventilation grille features new controls.
Standard equipment includes three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, wireless device charging tray, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Option kit includes Comfort Access, power-operated tilt-and-slide sunroof, and Harman Kardon surround sound system. head-up display and Enhanced View on the control display for the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
For driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, Cruise control with brake function, Speed limit information function with no overtaking indicator, Lane departure warning and Control Parking distance with sensors at the front and rear of the car. The options suite includes Driving Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Parking Assist with Reverse Assist.
The updated G87 BMW M2 is offered in three solid colors, five metallic shades and six BMW Personal exterior paint colors, with new additions Sao Paulo Yellow, Fire Red Metallic, Portimao Blue Metallic. Metallic and Skyscraper Gray Metallic.
