BMW launched the new Big Boxer concept in Italy
BMW R 20 concept
This week, BMW revealed its latest innovative design which they named the BMW R20 concept.
The chassis has been completely redeveloped and with a black double-ring main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubing, forming the backbone.
The black rear rim is wrapped with a 200/55-17 rim, while the front spoke rim runs on 120/70-17 rubber.
The proven BMW Paralever has been implemented in a new two-arm variant, where the swingarm is made of chrome-molybdenum steel and the Paralever strut is made of aluminum.
A pair of milled aluminum rear axle mounts are another high-quality detail.
The exposed driveshaft, adapted from the R18 – a visual highlight of the famous R 18 models – has been shortened to integrate into the roadster architecture.
Öhlins Blackline components are fully adjustable front and rear.
The basic shape of the vehicle has a steering head angle of 62.5° and a wheelbase of 1,550 mm.
Radial-mounted six-piston calipers from the ISR up front and a four-piston caliper at the rear handle deceleration duties.
The focus of the BMW R20 concept continues to be the 2,000 cc oil-cooled Big Boxer engine.
For the concept car, a new cylinder head cover, a new belt cover and a new oil cooler have been developed to allow the oil pipes to be installed in a partially hidden form.
The BMW R20 concept is color-coordinated with cylinder head covers, belt covers and air intakes in polished and anodised aluminum, as well as Paralever struts, foot pegs and ISR brake calipers in cast steel.
The taillights are perfectly integrated into the single seat upholstered in black Alcantara and smooth leather, and emphasize the roadster’s dynamic appearance with its compact rear end.
Modern LED headlights are presented in the form of 3D printed aluminum rings with integrated daytime running lights. The main headlights seem to float between this ring of daytime running lights.
Each of these details contributes to the unique character of the concept car and emphasizes its overall statement.
Alexander Buckan – BMW Motorrad design director
“The R20 Concept is a bold expression of BMW Motorrad’s DNA. It combines modern technical elements with classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalist aesthetic make it an unmistakable character.”
