BMW brings head up display technology to motorcycles

It’s been more than a decade since Google Glass debuted with fanfare only to ultimately fail, but now BMW thinks it’s time to bring us the Motorrad ConnectedRide Smart Glasses.

Although the world is not ready for Google Glass, I think we are ready for his kind of live display technology if it is well designed and implemented. Since BMW has decades of experience with projecting information onto the windshields of their cars, we can reasonably expect that they’ve done a great job with these new glasses.

The BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide smart glasses can project all relevant data, such as navigation, speed or gear, directly into the driver’s field of vision in real time.

The design of the smart glasses and screen has been adapted to meet the special needs of motorcyclists. In addition, the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Smart Glasses can be adjusted to fit a wide range of helmets and face shapes. This makes the smart glasses comfortable to wear even on long trips.

BMW Motorrad also offers two sets of certified UVA/UVB lenses included with the frame. One set of lenses is 85% transparent and can be used specifically for helmets with built-in visors. The other set features colored lenses that turn the smart glasses into a pair of sunglasses.
