“Our dealer partners are now allowed to carry out software updates and deliver vehicles to customers,” the spokesperson said.

“Some vehicles have already received the update remotely and we will continue to apply the update until all affected vehicles are resolved. Customers who have already taken delivery of their vehicles are being notified,” the spokesperson said.

Based on this comment and the recall notice posted earlier today, the issue may be resolved with an over-the-air software update that in some cases does not require a dealer visit.

BMW Australia has yet to confirm exactly which vehicles are affected by the sales stoppage, reported exclusively by Car expert earlier this week.

The delivery suspension was communicated to BMW dealers in Australia two weeks ago and has only now been lifted.

Brand this morning recalling nearly 26,500 vehicles across BMW, Mini and Alpina lines to correct faults that may reduce braking performance.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, signal interference may occur in the brake system electronics,” the automaker said in the recall notice.

“If the fault occurs, greater pedal force may be required to brake. The anti-lock braking system and dynamic stability control will also be unavailable,” the company said.

A defect with identical symptoms has led to the recall of 7,168 BMW vehicles – the 5 Series, i5, Line 7, i7X1, iX1X5, X6, X7 and XMin March this year.

According to US owner forums, BMW customers in the US are being told that the delay is due to a problem with the integrated braking system (IBS) of their new vehicles.

IBS uses an electric actuator to maintain steady brake pressure, a fault that is believed to cause the driver to apply greater force to the brake pedal.

IBS faults can also lead to malfunctions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and stability control systems.
