The Cowherd and Jason McIntyre devoted part of Thursday to revealing its three best picks for Week 2 of the college football season, focusing on three Big Ten teams.
Let’s find out their analysis from “The flock.”
COLORADO in NEBRASKA -7.5 (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock)
Colin’s Choice: Nebraska-7.5
Colin’s thoughts: “Nebraska has lost more close games in the last month — four — than any team in the country last year. Their defense was great; it’s even better now. They have the best recruiting class in Nebraska football history. … I think Nebraska will roll.”
J-Mac’s Pick: Colorado +7.5
J-Mac’s thoughts: “When that came out, I was like, ‘What the hell? 7.5? That feels like an overstatement.’ I think a lot of it was an overreaction to Colorado struggling with State of North Dakota [in Week 1] and Nebraska looks great. … I expect Nebraska to win, but let me know Shedeur Sanders and Colorado.”
BOISE STATE @ No. 7 OREGON -20 (10 p.m. ET, Peacock)
Colin’s Choice: Oregon-20
Colin’s thoughts: “It’s terrible against State of Idaho; they beat Boise State. It’s -20. I’d like to keep it closer, but I’ll take Oregon. They returned 11 starters, including their top four receivers, and Boise State’s pass defense was blown apart by Southern Georgia [in Week 1]. Oregon was embarrassed by the win over Idaho. … They will punish Boise State.”
J-Mac’s Pick: Oregon-20
J-Mac’s thoughts: “People are missing the boat here. Last week, [Oregon] didn’t show much. Two of their best defenders barely played. … I think this is a really big-play Oregon team here. They did a lot of dinks and dunks last week, a lot of running. … I think Oregon is going to take down Boise State.”
Colin and J-Mac’s Best Big Ten Bets
No. 3 TEXAS -7 @ No. 10 MICHIGAN (noon ET, FOX and FOX Sports app)
Colin’s Choice: Under 42.5
Colin’s thoughts: “I think what you’re going to see is a very tight game where Texas, late in the third quarter, early in the fourth quarter, breaks away and wins. That’s a big spot for Texas. They have a lot of pressure and Michigan’s defense is outstanding. … [Texas head coach] Steve Sarkisian has been a little tight in big games against top-10 teams. They’ve been hot and cold in these big games.”
J-Mac’s Pick: Michigan +7
J-Mac’s thoughts: “[Texas] is kind of a bully. Against weaker teams, they just bombard them. This is a tough game. I picked Michigan at 7. This summer, they posted odds for big games in Vegas—it was -4 for Texas. Now all of a sudden it’s 7/7.5, based on a week? Week 2 in college football, I want to blur out the stories from a week ago.”
