Bermuda Championship 2022 leaderboard, scores: Austin Sesyman, Harrison Endycott lead in 62 seconds in round 1

The unique (and often bizarre) Butterfield Bermuda Championship took place on Thursday with 500 FedEx Cup points and potentially an invited Master in person in Southampton, Bermuda. The weather looked tough for the next few days, but Round 1 went well and the players took full advantage of a defenseless golf course.

Austin Sesyman and Harrison Endycott lead the way by 9 shots under 62 on Thursday, but there are some interesting names (at least based on the strength of the field) that outshine them. Harry Higgs, Justin Lower, Patrick Rodgers and Nick Hardy are all in the top 20 on the leaderboard but are now far behind the top spots behind their crown jewels in the first round.

Leaders

T1. Austin’s mother, Harrison Endycott (-9)

S Motherman was a good dribbler who had a great day. He took advantage of that powerful shot and didn’t need to do anything crazy on the green at the Port Royal Golf Course to take the lead.

In his 29 career starts on the PGA Tour, Smotherman has only had one place in the top 10, and it went to the Barracuda Championship on the opposite court. He just missed keeping his Tour card at the Wyndham Championships in August, but returned at the Ferry Korn Tour Finals to pick up the card and claim several slots on the major tournament tour. Despite having little experience in the position, he has had to go through much more stressful situations as a pro and looks ready to run for this tournament and what could be. was a career-changing victory.

“Luckily and unfortunately, I feel comfortable being in a bubble-like position,” says S Mothertman. “I’ve had it all my career now. I think the best thing for me is once I know the [LIV] everyone’s leaving and having two more weeks off before Napa just to reset the spirit, I mean, we’re finishing up the year.

“And obviously to take what happened at Wyndham, let that sink in, use it as some kind of momentum to come along. So a good season with some respite with the team. some really good work, especially with the last two weeks off from ZOZO or CJ, so I know Bermuda will be my next game. season or end of fall. We’re doing a lot of good things so let’s keep doing what we’re doing.”

Other candidates

T3. Arjun Atwal, Adam Schenk, Scott Brown, Denny McCarthy, Robby Shelton (-8)

T8. Justin Lower, Sean O’Hair, Harry Higgs, Thomas Detry, Dylan Wu, Ben Martin, Greyson Sigg, Kevin Yu (-7)

This is a crew of one and two behind the co-leaders, but the big name here is probably Higgs. He hasn’t played well since the end of T14 in masters in April – he only had another top 20 in that span – but he won it on Thursday and is now one of the favorites to get his first PGA Tour win. that. He spoke openly about how difficult the struggle has been for him (which is a lot of the reason why he was forced to take root as a player).

“I haven’t been legally good at golf since the Masters in April, and God knows why,” Higgs said. “Well, actually, one of the things despite that is that I’ve been too hard on myself. Still haven’t played my best, just had a poor attitude, you know, with taking a shot or two. drop and then have a chance to get better at the end of the week to get out of the slump, I just don’t have a good enough attitude – it will cost me the price once or twice and I will missed one or two, and then a few months ago I wasn’t even really close, so today it’s been fun to watch successful golf swings, I wouldn’t be shocked to see like ‘Oh, the ball’s nowhere near where I’m thinking.’ “

Kim Swan’s Mission

Swan, 65, a former European Tour pro, is a teaching specialist at the Port Royal Golf Course who retired earlier this year but was invited to join the tournament by a sponsor.

“As an elderly citizen, I’ve made a concerted effort to adopt a healthier fitness-focused lifestyle; with this opportunity, I’d like to turn back the clock to dance one last time in my honor. all those who helped in my life’s journey and rose up to the Port Royal Golf Course for the wonderful public golf course it remains to this day,” he told the Royal Gazette earlier this year.

On Thursday, he broke 90 with 18 of 89. As a 65-year-old who hasn’t played professionally. It was a big time.

2022 Bermuda Championship gets updated odds, picks

Odds via Caesars Sportsbook

  • Denny McCarthy: 7-1
  • Robby Shelton: 11-1
  • Adam Schenk: 12-1
  • Thomas Detry: 14-1
  • Austin Mother: 14-1
  • Harrison Endycott: 18-1
  • Seamus Strength: 20-1
  • Justin Lower: 20-1
  • Nick Hardy: 25-1

Detry is as intriguing as a talent and perhaps curious with a 14-1 scoreline. However, I will deviate from the table here with the Higgs of 80-1. He hasn’t played well for most of the year, but he’s only returned two, and he’s shown enough talent that 80-1 should be considered too long. He also finished second on this course in 2020. If he’s 40-1, that’s still too long for me so 80-1 feels like a steal.
