Beijing 2024: Toyota bZ3C and bZ3X concepts launched – preview upcoming electric cars to go on sale in China this year
At the ongoing Auto China 2024, Toyota has revealed two concepts previewing upcoming electric vehicle (EV) models that will be added to its bZ lineup. If these concepts look familiar it’s because they are the next evolution of bZ cross concept and bZ FlexSpace Concept introduced at Auto Shanghai last year.
We start with the bZ3C, a fastback crossover with a sleek shape, the brand’s signature hammerhead lighting system (front and rear), retractable door handles, mounted ADAS sensors on the hood (possibly lidar) as well as a diffuser like element at the rear.
Inside, the concept has a minimalist dashboard design and a large infotainment touchscreen that integrates multiple controls for various functions, including the air conditioning system.
There’s also a two-tier center console with plenty of storage space below the cupholders and gear selector. Expressive ambient lighting may or may not be included in the production version.
Moving on to the second concept on display, the bZ3X is a two-row SUV that also features hammerhead-style lighting at the front (with the main headlights placed lower), although the rear is a full-length light bar. Maximum width is simpler.
Like its sedan counterpart, most of the car’s functions are accessed via the central touchscreen, and there’s also a handy two-tier center console. Both the bZ3C and bZ3X have a large panoramic sunroof.
At the time of writing, Toyota did not mention anything about powertrain specifications, but the company noted that the latest advanced driver assistance systems and smart cockpit will be part of the equipment list.
Additionally, the automaker also mentioned that both models were born from joint ventures with local Chinese automakers. In the case of bZ3C, partners include BYD Toyota EV Technology, FAW Toyota Motor and Toyota Intelligent Electrophoresis R&D Center (Toyota IEM).
Meanwhile, bZ3X was jointly developed by Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC Group), GAC Toyota Motor and Toyota’s IEM. Both models are expected to go on sale in China this year.
