According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, just as the group released balloons during Sunday night’s birthday celebration in Baytown, a car pulled up and someone started shooting into the crowd.
Some of the victims transported themselves to a nearby hospital, Gonzalez said, where a fight broke out and other law enforcement agencies were called for help.
Candlelight vigil was held in memory of a man who was killed at his home a few weeks ago, Sgt. Greg Campbell of the sheriff’s office told CNN branch KTRK.
Delegates are still gathering information on the names and ages of the victims.
Police Chief Gonzalez said authorities do not currently have any information on possible suspects.
