Trina talks about ‘BAPS’ and gets candid about her current relationship with Nicki Minaj
On Tuesday, June 4, Carlos King released an exclusive interview with Trina via YouTube. During the hour and a half conversation, the female rapper shared where her current relationship with Minaj stands.
Finally, Trina revealed that they hadn’t spoken “in a while.”
“I haven’t talked to her in a while.” she told King, who then asked her to explain further. “I will tell [we haven’t spoken] maybe for a little over a year or so, maybe longer… Well, we came out of the pandemic, my mom passed away in 2019… so maybe… about a year or two.”
According to TMZ, Trina’s mother, Vernessa Taylor, passed away on September 3, 2019 after a battle with cancer. Trina explained to King that after her mother passed away, she “didn’t really talk to many people.”
“I think I’ve entered this little phase and I just… I don’t know what to feel,” She declared.
However, despite the long time since she and Minaj last spoke, Trina strongly admitted how “proud” she was of her fellow female MC.
“I’m proud, like, you deserve this, like, we saw your first tour, it was great… and now it’s like a phenomenon, and you’re just looking at development — you just got your son,” Trina said, referring to Minaj. “…I’m just happy for you, even though you’re here and I’m here, but I’m just happy for you. And I feel like everything that’s going on for her, she deserves it.”
During the chat, Trina also mentioned her 2019 collaboration with Minaj, ‘BAPS.’ The rapper admitted that her team failed to promote the song and that a former member of her team made false statements about Minaj at the time.

During her chat with King, Trina also mentioned the time she made headlines after sharing her number one female rapper in December 2023.
