Austria imposes national lockdown as Covid-19 crisis deepens
The government also announced a plan to make vaccinations mandatory from 1 February next year.
Schallenberg told reporters at a news conference in Vienna the national shutdown starting Monday will last a minimum of 10 days and could be extended for another 10 days.
The move comes just days after Austria imposed lockdown measures on all people aged 12 and over. not fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
About 65% of Austria’s population is Fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower rates in the European Union, where cases are increasing.
