When Apple’s much-anticipated AR/VR headset hits the market, it will bring a number of design elements and unique capabilities that set it apart from the competition’s offerings, according to a detailed report. . report from Bloomberg.

Unlike other headsets that come with hand controllers, Bloomberg reports that the device – tentatively called Apple Reality Pro – will allow users to control AR and VR environments with just their hands and eye. The external camera of the new headset will track the user’s hand, while the sensors in the device will track the user’s eyes. This will allow the user to control the device with their eyes or by pinching their thumb and forefinger together.

“Eye and hand tracking will be a major selling point for the device,” said the Bloomberg source, who asked not to be named.

Meanwhile, the device will “try to create a 3D version of the iPhone operating system,” according to the report, giving Apple customers a familiar interface. That means you can see headsets with VR versions of apps like the Safari web browser, Apple App Store, and Apple TV plus — all displayed in a grid of icons.

In a move that requires significant processing power, Apple is said to be planning to provide realistic VR avatars to users during FaceTime calls. In contrast, Meta — Current leader in VR headset market — provide more animated avatars in virtual meetings. Bloomberg says the FaceTime avatar will show the user’s face and entire body. However, the headset will only be able to support actual avatars for two users at a time, each with an Apple headset — any other users joining the call will have to use the icons or Memoji.

Given the processing power required for the new device, Apple is said to have chosen to offload the battery from the headphones themselves. Bloomberg says it will come in an external package that goes into the user’s pocket and connects via cable.
