Apple expands self-service repair program to Europe

Apple announced on Thursday that its self-service repair program is now available in Europe.
The program, called Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair, provides consumers with the ability to test the optimal function of product components and identify components that may need repair without requiring assistance from Apple or an independent repair provider.
First launched in the US in December 2023, the tool now supports 42 Apple products and is currently available in 32 European countries, including the UK, France and Germany, according to a release. The program will now support iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models in 33 countries and 24 languages. Apple said it also plans to expand the service to Canada in 2025.
Apple released for the first time self-service program in 2022, providing customers with access to legal Apple manuals, parts, and tools used by Apple to enable them to repair their own devices. The program was started in response to pressure from “right to repair” advocates, who argued that consumers should not be locked into a select few authorized repair shops. In February, the company extend The program includes Mac models equipped with the latest M3 chip.
The company says the self-service repair tool is part of an ongoing effort to extend the life of its products.
“While Apple is committed to providing safe and affordable repair options, designing and building products that last is a top priority,” Apple said in a statement. “The best kind of repair for our customers and the planet is one that is never necessary.”
According to a release, customers can initiate an Apple Diagnostics session on a second product to check status and performance on a device that may need repair. After following a series of on-screen prompts, they will know whether their product needs repair and which parts may need to be replaced.
