We’re not going to pretend that Cheez-Its is a fancy, high-end snack. When you’re craving a crunchy, savory snack, they’ll hit it, but they’re not exactly what you’ll be serving at a dinner party. They are the kind of snacks that you overeat and can be full but never really satisfied after eating. And we still love them. But do we love them enough to visit a Cheez-It-branded stop?
Recently, the kitchen goes out to Palm Springs, California to visit the first (and only) Cheez-It stop. According to the company, it’s supposed to be “an amazingly delicious desert destination designed for road-trippers and adventurous Cheez-It superfans.” Are there really enough Cheez-It superheroes out there to support a ridiculously delicious desert destination? We’re not sure, but apparently, Cheez-It thought so. And now we’re writing about it, so it looks like they’re on to something.
Of course, there’s a cowboy mascot holding a Cheez-It gas pump. Because how can you build a desert attraction without a giant cowboy to attract visitors? But don’t worry, Kitchn confirms there’s also a pump that actually dumps bags of Cheez-Its into your car so you can snack to your heart’s content.
In essence, the Cheez-It pitstop is still a marketing ploy, so it’s no surprise to hear that inside is not only Cheez-It, but plenty of branded merchandise as well. And there’s also a place to sample different flavors of Cheez-Its, so you don’t have to buy every box in the store to find your favorite.
If you’re ready to plan a trip to visit the posh Cheez-It gift shop, we have some bad news. Pitstop seems to be open only temporarily and has closed. But you never know. It may still return in the future. And if that’s the case, maybe we’ll find time to send someone to check it out.
