Anthony Loke wants subsidised My50 monthly travel card initiative to continue in upcoming Budget 2025
Transport Minister Anthony Loke hopes that the My50 monthly unlimited travel pass for Rapid KL trains and buses in the Klang Valley will continue in Budget 2025, which is expected to be tabled in October.
“The government has prioritised the public transport system and we have seen an increase in allocation through the My50 travel card, up from RM100 million up to RM200 million last year. We hope that such initiatives will continue next year to make it easier for commuters in the Klang Valley to have affordable public transport to ease congestion,” he said yesterday, as reported by Star.
The Seremban MP said the My50 programme reached more than 200,000 users per month and more than 900,000 people took the train in the Klang Valley every day.
“We know that the Klang Valley is facing severe traffic congestion, so we need to continue to improve the public transport system so that more residents can use it. I hope that the initiatives and projects we have requested will be considered by the Ministry of Finance,” he added.
Introduced in 2019My50 is an unlimited travel pass that gives Malaysians 30 days of unlimited travel on LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL bus and MRT shuttle bus services. It is a great deal for commuters in the city, subsidized by the government at RM100 (as stated on the purchase/renewal receipt).
“No other country offers such high subsidies for public transport, making it an affordable option for its citizens. Imagine that for less than two ringgit a day, you can use any form of public transport in Kuala Lumpur,” Loke was quoted as saying last year.
